The puerperal hypocalcemia , better known as milk fever, is a metabolic-nutritional disease which is characterized by a momentary imbalance in the regulation of the concentration of calcium (Ca) in blood during the peripartum period. This state goes from 48 hours before to 72 hours after delivery . The most important risk factors in the disease are the age of the animal, high production and diet in the transition stage.
